Change to VB-Airsuspension serial and batch number format

Image: Batchnummers

You probably know that all our VB-FullAir kits have a serial number (also known as a VB-ID number). So what exactly are these serial numbers used for? We explain it here.

Our VB-Partners use the serial numbers to program the software and register the kits. This registration is very important for VB-Airsuspension because it tells us which kit is mounted on which vehicle, who is using our kits and what purpose they are being used for (for example for a motorhome or ambulance). The vehicle is linked to this kit internally to ensure we can trace the kit as a part. This lets VB-Airsuspension know exactly which parts from which (production) batches have been mounted to which vehicles. In addition, some products we manufacture have a batch number.

Both the serial number and batch number start with six digits. The batch number has 13 characters, for example 24xxxx-BNxxxxx.  The serial number has 14 digits (000000-00000-000). The first six digits are consecutive, with the first two digits referring to the year of manufacture: 23 refers to 2023 and 24 refers to 2024, for example. However, as we sold more and more kits, we noticed that they exceeded the number range of the current year. This has meant that at the end of 2024, we had to switch to serial and batch numbers starting with '25'.

Because our systems are set up to handle 14 characters, we are now using a letter to refer to each year from 2025 onwards. 'A' stands for 2025, 'B' stands for 2026, and so on. This gives us ten times as many combinations and allows us to continue this system for quite a few years to come. It also offers us the opportunity to give other products serial numbers as well in the future.
