Which air suspension should I get for my vehicle?
Air suspension is the general term used by many people to describe suspension systems that (partially) run on air. In most cases an air suspension system regulates itself; in other cases it is controlled by the user.
If the original suspension – or traditional suspension – cannot be regulated, the air suspension can. Thanks to this feature, the air suspension provides greater comfort, increased stability, optimum driveability and useful functionalities.
Air suspension: a definition
We think the term 'air suspension' is too general in many cases, which is why we refer to (air) suspension systems. This includes four different product groups, which can be divided into different products.
As this article specifically refers to 'air suspension', we refer to the product groups: full air suspension and semi air suspension. It is important to know that these are two completely different types of 'air suspension'.
The difference between full air suspension and semi air suspension
The names say it all: full air suspension replaces and semi air suspension supports.
Full air suspension:
Full air suspension is a system where the existing leaf or coil spring suspension is completely replaced by a full air suspension system.
Semi air suspension:
Semi air suspension is a system in which the air springs are installed between the chassis and the rear axle (with leaf springs). These support the vehicle's existing leaf suspension.
When to choose an air suspension system?
There may be several reasons for this and there is no general answer that we can give other than: “It is important to us that you find a solution that meets your wishes and/or problems”. In many cases, one of our air suspension systems is that solution. This is why we prefer to talk about solutions rather than products.
Our solutions can be applied to many wishes and/or problems. Your question: "When would I choose an air suspension system?" can therefore be answered with: “If you have any preferences for or problems with your vehicle!”.
Getting to the point:
“What preferences and/or problems are solved with an air suspension system?”
In our handy Product Finder we have gathered the most common problems and/or preferences in a handy overview. When you browse through this handy Product Finder, you will see it in step two.
“Is an air suspension system suitable for my vehicle?”
There is a reason why we call our Product Finder handy, because – in addition to your preferences and/or problems – it takes your vehicle and the availability of our air suspension systems into account.
“How can I install an air suspension system under my vehicle?”
Through a VB-Partner! There is always a VB-Partner nearby, even when you are out and about. Simply enter your location on our updated VB-Partner page and you will have all the contact details of your nearest VB-Partner at hand.
In addition to having the system installed by our VB-Partners, we also recommend that you seek advice from the same source (by checking our Product Finder). They are best placed to advise you on the best solution for your preferences and/or problems.
“Why seek advice from a VB-Partner when I already have answers from the Product Finder?”
Simply because they really listen to your preferences and/or problems and can provide the best advice based on experience. They approach it from different perspectives and ask questions. For example, you could say:
“I want my vehicle to be more comfortable.”
Our VB-Partners will often ask: what does comfort mean to you? Possible answers include: "I want bumps to be less noticeable" or "I find crosswinds annoying" or "My vehicle rattles on the inside".
These are just some of many examples...
“Is an air suspension system affordable?”
Choosing an air suspension system requires an additional investment in your vehicle. Our different product groups and different products come in different price classes. Our VB-Partners will be happy to provide you with an offer that combines your wishes and/or problems with a specific solution for your vehicle.
The most expensive solution is often seen as the best solution. You will also experience the greatest advantages of an air suspension system. Then again, why choose full air suspension when you only have a few preferences (or problems), meaning a semi air suspension system could solve everything?
